Is the start of 2025 fresh and exciting for you?

At LupaSearch, we’re excited to share an improvement we’ve been working on over the past month.

This is great news for all e-commerce stores with large product catalogs. (Well, at least we hope so—after all, they were the ones who asked for this feature the most!)

Introducing an even smarter search with Search Query Expansion

Previously, ensuring customers found what they were looking for required some additional manual work from your team.

Let’s say a user searched for “dog food” but used a less common synonym. You had to manually add all those variations—snacks, treats, pet food, etc.—to ensure they got relevant results.

And even then, there were always cases where searches returned zero results, leaving that high-paying customer frustrated.

With this latest update, that changes.

Now, when LupaSearch detects a search with few or no results, it automatically runs OpenAI’s ChatGPT model to analyze the query and suggest logical product alternatives—ones the customer might not have even considered.

Solve tricky nuances of synonyms (even across different languages!)

True story.

One of our Lithuanian clients sells pet food. Since Lithuanian has many synonyms, some users search for dog food using less common terms, like “šunų ėdalas” (which also means “dog food”).

Before this update, the client’s e-commerce search failed to return relevant results, costing the business lost revenue.

Now, LupaSearch understands the search intent and automatically suggests alternatives like “dog food,” “natural dog food,” or “healthy dog meals.”

The best part? It all happens automatically. You don’t need to hire a full-time employee to brainstorm every possible synonym for your product assortment (another true story from one of our clients).

So, what’s in it for you?

  • Forget manual synonym mapping.
  • Return fewer (or even eliminate) zero-result searches.
  • Deliver a more intuitive and higher-converting shopping experience.

This isn’t a massive, flashy innovation, but it’s one of those small yet impactful improvements that take your e-commerce search quality to the next level.
